Thanks to California’s open primary system, two Democrats—incumbent Mike Honda and challenger Ro Khanna, a former teacher, lawyer, and deputy assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Commerce—are vying to represent the heart of Silicon Valley in the House of Representatives.
Honda, who is looking to secure his eighth term, introduced 2012 House legislation to create a new FDA division to boost health IT and wireless health programs that so far has not gained traction. Khanna is pushing greater postmarket surveillance of medical devices support for healthcare technology.
The most recent poll shows Honda with a two-point lead, according to Real Clear Politics.
