Researchers leading the pioneering fields of bioelectronic medicine, neurotechnology, and neuromodulation have big dreams for the future.

During the 2017 South by Southwest Conference and Festivals, leaders from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the Center for Bioelectronic Medicine at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at Northwell Health discussed the promise of bioelectronic medicine. Bioelectronic medicine involves electrical stimulation of the nervous system to treat a wide variety of serious conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, paralysis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

These innovators, all at the forefront of the field, discussed the current state of bioelectronic medicine and shared their hopes for its future.

Read on to learn what they believe may eventually be possible from this area of medical technology.
