BUSINESS PLANNING & TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

During 2006, total sales at leading IVD manufacturers were on pace to grow around 6%. Sysmex Corp. (Kobe, Japan) led the pack with reported sales growth of 14.2% to 47.5 billion yen in the first half of fiscal 2007 (April–September 2006). Roche Diagnostics, part of Roche Holding Ltd. (Basel, Switzerland), saw sales increase 5% to 6.4 billion Swiss francs in the nine months ending September 2006, while Abbott (Abbott Park, IL) saw sales grow 5.8% to $2.9 billion in the same period.

Nine-month revenues for Dade Behring (Deerfield, IL) grew 4% to $1.3 billion, although third-quarter sales were up 5.7%. Sales at Bio-Rad (Hercules, CA) grew 6.5% in the nine-month period, boosted by a 10.8% sales increase by its clinical diagnostics division in the third quarter. BioMérieux reported sales up 6.1% to €765.4 million in the first nine months of 2006.

Becton Dickinson's diagnostics and biosciences divisions reported a 5% revenue increase to $2.6 billion in the fiscal year ended September 2006.
