Patients Echo Support for Home Devices

The survey says...that patients enjoy the convenience of home-based medical devices almost as much as OEMs like selling them. The survey, conducted by GfK Roper for the electronic health record company Practice Fusion, had some telling results among people with one or more chronic conditions:

  • 62% say that communication with their doctor using home medical devices would improve their health
  • Up to 57% respondents between the ages of 25 and 49 had were interested in home medical devices
  • Only 35% age 65+ were interested in home medical devices technology, but 90% percent of Americans age 65 or older are living with some form of chronic illness, according to CDC.
  • Men with chronic conditions were more interested in home monitoring devices (52%) than women (41%)

"Home medical devices can save the healthcare system money and also enable patients to live more independently while managing their chronic conditions," said Ryan Howard, CEO of Practice Fusion. Patients apparently agree. —Lawrence Lloyd
