From the basics of what is considered a medical device to the future of replacement organs, Eucomed is using a virtual museum to educate the world about medical technology. The MedTech Virtual Museum aims to inform visitors about the medical device industry from the ground up. Its user-friendly feel targets both people outside the industry who have little knowledge about devices and the market as well as experts who have years of experience. Interactive aspects such as video and a quiz should keep visitors clicking through the site. The virtual museum currently has three floors: 1. Ten Things You May Not Know About Medical Devices 2. Patients & Designers 3. The Future of Medical Technology “Although we who are in the business understand medical technology very well, it’s surprising how lay people and senior policy makers who may be interacting with the industry have quite a limited grasp of what the industry is and the scope of the industry,” John Wilkinson, chief executive of Eucomed, told the media during a conference call about the site this morning. “This is an attempt to get through this barrier in an interesting and convenient way.” More floors will be added to the site, and the current floors will be expanded to include more information. The site has had about 1400 visitors, most of which have originated in the United States. Eucomed is now officially promoting the site and hopes to get some feedback from its members, and in the future, the site might include links to other organizations such as AdvaMed. Since there is plenty of room for expansion on the site, Wilkinson and his team intend the site to be a dynamic medium that will help people understand the industry on a global scale. Check out the site here, and make sure you have the volume turned up.
