Abtox Executives Sentenced

The Chicago Tribune reports that two executives of Abtox (Mundelein, IL) have been sentenced today for their roles in selling to hospitals unapproved sterilizers that caused blindness in 18 patients. CEO Ross Caputo received 10 years in prison and VP/Chief Compliance Officer Robert Riley received six years. They also must reimburse hospitals $17 million for the fraudulent sales. Abtox had FDA approval for a small sterilizer but executives fraudlently claimed they had approval for a larger one, and that it could sterilize a number of devices when in reality it was only safe for stainless steel devices. Some hospitals used it to sterilize a small tube used in eye surgery, but the tube reacted poorly to the sterilant, leading to the blindness cases. Stiff sentences like these are appropriate because acting without regard to patient safety needs to be highly discouraged.

My feelings match those of
My feelings match those of everyone else's. Ross Caputo was a back-stabbing, evil man who would use deception and unethical techniques to run his business. I was fired from his company as well without any chance to defend my actions. Almost 3 years later, I'm still bitter. Ross tried to befriend me but in the end screwed me over. The funny part about this whole situation was that he was 100% sure that he would get away with this; I'm just glad that the justice system still works. I hope this man never gets a chance to get his life back, just a bit of repayment for all the pain and suffering he's caused countless others.
Ross Caputo is a smart
Ross Caputo is a smart narsistic jag off who took advantage of innocent people to do his wrongs. He hired unknowledgable people and put them in positions of authority on purpose so no one would question him. He ruined peoples lives who went down for his crimes aka Robert Riley.
I'll be suing these people
I'll be suing these people and a guy named Rainwater just found out they stole patented info from Technics Inc, and filed it with USPTO--So there will be no restarting the company and I'm sure their patent attorney will go to jail too.

I also worked there. We had no idea what was going on. They deserved their punishment. We had a lot of good people working there who lost their jobs. What was amazing was after that black Friday, they called back several individulal to keep the company going. And yes, I have heard about Ross Caputo ways of promoting females.

Ross Caputo was in the microbiology dept. He was accused
of promoting females who would sleep with him.Her husband
found out and put Rosses eyes out. tHAT shows you what
kind of character he was even then.

Not everyone was a criminal. Most people employed had no idea of the deception that was going on. Very hard working and good people who unfortunately were led by greedy people.

I was fired from this company because I questioned their practices while I was working for them. I am glad they got their just punishment.

The other two who were indicted pled guilty, and, I believe, were sentenced earlier.

This is very good. These guys are all criminals and why did the other two that were indicted not get convicted too? The Clinical VP and the Marketing VP should be in jail too. Whenever you purchase medical equipment the vendor should (in writing) guarantee it is FDA approved.
