FDA has approved a new HIV diagnostic test that can detect the virus up to 20 days earlier than other tests. Manufactured by Abbott, the Architect HIV Ag/Ab Combo Assay is the first test available in the United States that can detect HIV antigens and antibodies, according to the company. Earlier detection is a critical element in preventing to spread of the virus, because the risk of HIV transmission is the highest when the virus is at its earliest stages.
