Why should medical device engineers care about advancements in artificial intelligence (AI)?

"Speaking first-hand as an engineer who had to slog through loads of repetitive, tedious work that often felt far from my aspirations, the power of AI and automation is in unlocking creativity," Dave Evans, co-founder and CEO at Fictiv, said in a recent LinkedIn post. "Problem solving requires creativity. And engineering is full of important problems to be solved."

Fictiv is digitizing manufacturing with what Evans calls the "Dominos Pizza tracker for manufacturing."

"Just about every design engineer I know loves the 'design' aspect of a project, but gets a bit bored with the nuts and bolts (pun possibly intended) engineering details of really turning that design into a fully product and process optimized part," commented Ron Keith, COO at Alveo Technologies. "The history of innovation and automation shows us that it is the most mundane of human activities that tend to be the earliest targets of new technology that augment human capabilities."

Evans agreed and added, "Takes a full team to cross the finish line, and believe more and more technology, and specifically AI, will play a huge role on the squad."
