Watch Out For These 10 Non-Healthcare Companies Innovating In Healthcare (Qualcomm Life)

  • Semiconductor company Qualcomm, which sells digital wireless communication devices and services, wanted to bring its expertise to reshape wireless health.

  • In 2011, it revamped its wireless health business into Qualcomm Life with the goal of working with medical device makers and other healthcare stakeholders to create a solution that aggregates and integrates patient data from various devices, applications and services.

  • The company has also established a $100 million venture fund that has invested in the likes of mhealth companies like AliveCor, fitbit and AirStrip Technologies.

  • Qualcomm Life has also generated tremendous buzz by partnering with XPRIZE to launch the Qualcomm Tricorder XPrize competition where worldwide teams will compete to create a Star-Trek inspired diagnostic device for a chance to win $10 million.
