Google Health may have been a failed endeavor but that does by no means indicate that the Silicon Valley search giant doesn't want to leave its mark in healthcare.
Under the general principle that technology can help improve people's lives, Google co-founder and CEO Larry Page announced in September the formation of Calico, a health and wellness company. Details are still fuzzy, but it appears it will be a biotech company with an aim to challenge aging.
The CEO of the newly-formed startup is Art Levinson, former CEO of biotech heavy weight Genentech as well as its director.
Meanwhile Google Glass, a computerized headset that also debuted for developers this year, has people excited on what kind of healthcare applications the device could have. It's expected to hit the market in 2014.
