A system for ultrasonic medical microtube measurement has been designed to measure ultrathin tube walls with a high degree of accuracy and consistency. The compact, easy-to-install, low-maintenance UltraScan system uses as many as eight transducers to monitor tube wall characteristics, such as thickness and concentricity, as well as tube diameter and ovality, continuously and thus enable manufacturers to make process adjustments immediately. Patented technology provides automatic system setup and acquisition and tracking of the ultrasonic signal, thus minimizing the need for operator interaction. This technology allows rapid tracking of tolerances to detect wall variations, and delivers highly accurate average wall and concentricity measurements with good repeatability. The system can measure walls as thin as 0.001 in. on tubes as small as 0.010 in. OD.
