PolyCine GmbH (Schiffweiler, Germany), a provider of tubes and films used in medical packaging systems, has developed a new processing technique that prevents plasticizers from migrating from PVC. Lab tests have shown that PolyCine’s method suppresses the migration of plasticizers by more than 95%, according to the company. By reducing the risk related to use of plasticizers including DEHP, DINCH, and TEHTM, the technique opens the door to use of PVC-based devices for treatments such as dialysis, enteral nutrition, transfusion, and infusion, the company says.
