A company has developed a resin that is designed to bridge the gap between thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) resin and nylon 11 in flexural modulus, a property that is linked to pushability and torque in cardiovascular and neurovascular catheters. NanoMed EX compounds can be tailored to provide a flexural modulus between that of TPE (which is 75,000 psi) and nylon 11 (which is nearly twice that of TPE) without sacrificing elongation. The NanoMed EX formulations are designed for catheter extrusion processing, which requires small diameters, thin walls, tight tolerances, and smooth surfaces.
