| Butyl products offer an alternative to polymers |
. Two new butyl products, blended polyisobutylene and blended halogenated butyl (HIIR), are available from Goldsmith & Eggleton Inc. (Wadsworth, OH; 800/321-0954). When blended with prime elastomers, butyl products can reduce part costs. Blended polyisobutylene combines selected feedstocks to provide uniform molecular weight, and is available in several weight grades. Applications include sealants and adhesives, polymer modification, and vibration damping. Blended HIIR combines halogenated butyl rubbers to produce a uniform halogen content. The blended material is ideal for use in adhesives, noncured tapes, caulks, and sealants. Both butyl products are available in 34-kg bales.
