Armed with 3-D Printers, Amateurs Challenge the Medtech Paradigm: $150 Hand

Posted in Printing Services by Jamie Hartford on August 22, 2014

Bellingham, WA-based special effects artist Ivan Owen and South African carpenter Richard Van As developed the 3-D printed “Robohand” for a five-year-old boy born without fingers on his right hand. The device took them 20 minutes to design, print, and test, and cost only $150 (not including the printer) to make. Instructions are now available on the Internet for anyone to reproduce their device.
