Industry association AdvaMed (Washington, DC) has appointed Martyn W. C. Howgill to serve as executive director of its newly created Institute for Medical Technology Innovation.
Most recently, Howgill served as vice president for international business development and chief marketing officer at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston). During his eight-year tenure there, Howgill developed and managed domestic and international marketing campaigns to build the center's image as a premier cancer care and research facility.
The Institute for Medical Technology Innovation will operate as an independent research and education foundation. According to AdvaMed, the institute aims to examine the value of advances in medical technology and the contributions made to the U.S. healthcare system and economy through innovation. During the first phase of its national capital fund-raising campaign, AdvaMed raised nearly $12.5 million to support the institute, exceeding the association's initial goal of $5 million.
